The non-appearance of the Government Information Service (GIS) at the swearing in ceremony of Grenada¹s eighth Prime Minister since independence, the Honourable Tillman Thomas raised eyes brows at the media booth.
Thomas was sworn in last week Wednesday at the Grenada Trades Centre as the new Prime Minister following his political party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) victory at the polls earlier this week.
However, on Sunday at the swearing in ceremony of the Government Ministers and Senators some GIS employees were seen among the other media personnel covering the activity.
NDC won 11 of the 15 seats, leaving the incumbent New National Party (NNP) with the remaining four seats.
From since Tuesday July 8, the date of the General Elections, the GIS Channel, 12, was off the air, and only came back on air on Monday.
Ever since it was launched two years ago the GIS Channel was being used by the previous Government of former Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell to promote the New National Party (NNP).
While in opposition and even during the recent campaign period, the NDC often criticized the misuse of GIS to promote the NNP. Many of the employees of the GIS included the Director of Information, Selwin Noel, are known activists and supporters of the NNP.
